But one of my personal favorite traditions is the sending and receiving of Christmas cards. I LOVE to see all of my friends, both near and far, and how their families have grown. With the digital era, I've already received 2 e-cards, but it's just not the same (sorry). And a couple of my friends (Ashley, Bethany) have upped the anti on cuteness. I must strive to do better next year (and allocate a larger budget I'm sure). Thank you, thank you friends and family for continuing this tradition. I look forward to it every year more than the presents under the tree. I've had lots of friends come and go over the years; and I'd like to think that if we were in the same town, we'd still hang out. I miss you all.
The tree is trimmed, lights hung, shopping done, presents wrapped, cards sent. There's still some baking to do and some parties to host and attend. Lots of busyness involved with this special season.
However, we must force ourselves to slow down and remember the true meaning, to gaze at the nativity and ponder on that momentous occasion. I marvel at the amazing woman Mary must have been. At the overwhelming task she was given. To think of the sweetness of the Christ-child - he must have radiated such joy and peace.
Silent Night is probably the most popular peaceful Christmas song. I think mine is Away in a Manger. I love the last verse:
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me I pray.
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care,
And bid us for heaven to live with Thee there.
