She's 6!

Happy Birthday to our sweet Kiley who turned 6 a couple of weeks ago.   Kiley has been such a tremendous blessing to our lives.  She's kind, patient, creative, and amazing with her little sister.

We had a 3 hour "slumber party" with 10 friends!  There was a lot of giggling and screaming going on in our house!  The girls showed up in pajamas, played games, decorated pillowcases, had a dance party, and we served them waffles for dinner.  I think a good time was had by all.

Tidbits about Kiley: she can talk a lot; she likes to cuddle at night before she goes to bed; her reading skills are impressive; she wants us to still brush her teeth for her because she's worried she doesn't do it well enough; she loves to dance; she doesn't love the piano, but she is trying for her mommy.  Kiley is getting more and more independent: dressing herself, brushing her hair, tying her shoes, preparing her backpack for school, operating the television... I could go on.
Standard lunch fair includes a rotation of chicken nuggets, "smileys," mac&cheese, cheese quesadillas, homemade "lunchables," bean & cheese tostadas, and pizza.

Aubrey update: Aubrey is nearing 18 months!  She's had the worst cold (both girls have, but it's hit her hardest).  I hate to see my little ones not feel well.  As I held her yesterday so she would nap, I thought about mothers throughout time.  No matter the era or place, mothers hold their babies tight to their chests when they don't feel well.  We sing to them, we stroke their hair, and hold them just right so their breathing is easier.  In doing so, we ignore the crink in our neck, the chores left undone, and the clock as time ticks away.  It's one of the quintessential beautiful moments of being a mother, isn't it?  I am ever grateful for moments to hold my baby close, to have her be still and happy in my arms - even if she is getting snot all over my shirt.
