Hello, 9-1-1?

Friday I had Kiley in front of a cartoon and Aubrey down for a morning nap.    Perfect time to attack a project.  So I decided to climb out the window and clear the snow off our sunroom roof.  So trying to be a responsible mother, I informed Kiley that I was doing so and that I would leave the window open so she could come talk to me if she needed to.  I also showed her how to dial 911 if she heard me calling for help.

Midway through my snow-clearing, up to my mid-thighs in snow, a police officer showed up at my house. There I was, standing on my roof, as he informed me that my child had dialed 911 and that he was following up on the call.  When I asked Kiley what she said the them, she told me she couldn't remember.  I think it's only right that I teach my child how to dial 911, but I don't exactly want to go down a list of reasons she might dial 911.  I want her to believe that our home is always a place of safety and peace.  In our follow-up conversation about 911, we talked about "true emergencies."  The examples I used were if mommy was hurt or if the house was on fire.

Turns out, she also called Kullen to let him know she was hungry and that Mommy was on the roof.  I'm kind of wondering if that's what she told the 911 operator too.  "Hello 911?  I'm hungry and my mommy is on the roof..."
